First Baking Biscuits

These are simple biscuits , which don’t have any added sugars. They are made with juice instead, here I am sharing two versions: one with apple juice and one with carrot juice. This recipe is so useful as it has very few ingredients and the juice brings the biscuit dough together in the bowl. They are quite plain to eat (for adult tastes) but a good recipe for some easy baking fun in the kitchen.

This is a great recipe for a first baking session with your child, as the recipe is easy to put together and extremely forgiving!

  • 100g plain flour

  • 100g spelt flour, or wholemeal flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 75g butter, cut into cubes

  • 75ml apple juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

To make ~

Preheat the oven to 180C (fan oven). Then Line one large, or two smaller trays with baking paper (ready for the biscuits)

Sift the floors and baking powder into a bowl: add the butter and rub with your finger tips into breadcrumbs. Then add the apple juice and bring together with your hands to formate dough.

Tip out on a floured surface and knead a little to bring it together. Then roll it out quite thinly (3mm approx). Use cutters to cut into shapes & place on the lined tray(s). Bake for 15 minutes or until starting to colour. Remove from the oven and leave for 5 mins to cool, then transfer to a wire rack.

The biscuits will store well, for a few days, in an airtight container.
