mimi’s bowl

how it began

I started to help other parents with recipe inspiration and simple meal plans, sharing ideas with friends. This became Mimi’s Bowl which quickly grew into an online community. I wanted to reach out and connect to other parents, who felt as overwhelmed as I did cooking for a family. As a parent myself, I understand the total frustration of learning what your children do and don’t like. If you are feeling uninspired and stuck in a food rut then I hope you will find some recipes, ideas and encouragement right here.

it’s been a baby eating adventure…

From the expensive all-in-one steaming and pureeing machine, that then required 30 minutes to take it apart and clean it, after each use... to the ice cube trays that froze solid so I couldn’t remove the food (you need freezing trays with a soft silicon shell)... weaning for me was not joyful. I actually dreaded it. It seemed incredibly complicated and not at all fun. Eventually, I started to trust my instincts and worked on recipes that my daughter liked and would eat. Once I got into a better rhythm in the kitchen everything became easier. I decided to reject the expensive babyfood equipment for a simple hand blender and soft structured ice cube tray (which is truly all you need). I bought seasonal fruit and vegetables because they taste better and cost less. Most importantly, I started to develop my daughter’s palette from bitter to sweet tastes, because I strongly believe we shouldn’t privilege sweet flavours for babies from the outset (something so many baby food recipes do).  And so, Mimi’s Bowl started.

Through our social channels I share the food we eat at home. This website has the full archive of recipes to look up. I hope you will be part of our community and that you will enjoy some of the recipes, they are sent to you straight from my kitchen table with love.
