Apple & Pear Compote

This is such a great recipe ~ it works for the whole family and it freezes really well. You can blitz it into a smoother purée, or mash it. You can completely omit the cinnamon for smaller kids and keep it really simple. A vanilla pod is great too, just split in two, add it to the fruit as it cooks to release its lovely flavour and remove after cooking. We all eat it for breakfast with yoghurt, or it makes a healthy and naturally sweet snack.

  • x6 pears

  • x6 apples

  • x1 cinnamon stick (can omit)

Wash, peel and core the apples and pears, cut into wedges. Add to a pan with a tablespoon of water for every piece of fruit. Finally add the cinnamon stick.

Cook on a low - medium heat for 10-20 minutes, or until the apples and pears are completely soft. Add more water if needed. Remove the cinnamon stick and discard.

Cool and serve as it is, or blend using a hand blender, to the desired consistency. Delicious served wth yoghurt.
